10 Things You Need To Know About Microblading

For people who have sparse and over plucked natural eyebrows or lack of hair growth due to scars or ageing, microblading can be the perfect solution to create the illusion of hair strokes so you can achieve those thick, statement-making brows whilst stepping away from the eyebrow pencil!

We’ve put together a guide of everything you need to know about microblading based on our most frequently asked questions. Here’s what you should know before you book your appointment…

  1. Microblading works using tiny blades to insert pigment under the skin surface of the eyebrows to create the look of individual hair strokes. The results? Natural looking, full brows, without the need to draw them on or fill them in with make up!
  2. Since microblading is a very detailed process, it usually takes around 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. During the session, we will shape and style your brows with pencil to make sure you’re satisfied with them before the procedure.
  3. As the pigments used in the treatment are semi-permanent, your brows will naturally fade overtime. Depending on skin type, the results will last around 1-2 years. To maintain them, an annual top up is recommended. We’re always happy to take a look and advise when we think you should book in for your top up.
  4. Don’t panic! Your new brows will appear darker immediately after the initial treatment as the pigment will not absorb into the skin straight away. The true colour can only be assessed 2-4 weeks after the treatment when the pigment is absorbed and the skin has fully healed.
  5. Once the healing process begins, you may notice some flakes of skin around the area giving the impression that the colour is fading. Don’t worry; this is just dry skin being naturally removed from your eyebrows.
  6. It’s really important to follow the aftercare procedure to get the best results from your treatment. We always chat through the dos and don’ts and we’re happy to answer any questions you may have following your treatment.
  7. A touch-up treatment is required around 4-6 weeks after your initial treatment as the pigment may not take to certain areas following just one treatment. This is a great opportunity for you to let us know if you’d like your brows a little darker or thicker to make sure they look perfect!
  8. Going on holiday? You should avoid direct sunlight for 2 weeks after treatment. Once healed, always apply a layer of sunscreen to your eyebrows when exposed to the sun to avoid fading and keep them looking fresh!
  9. We know that the ‘does it hurt?’ question is a common query for people considering microblading. Patients may experience a scraping sensation during treatment, however, we always do everything we can to minimise discomfort and pain.
  10. You can book your appointment for microblading with our expert practitioners at Esthétique today! Use our online booking system, give us a call or drop us an email.
